Subject description:
This Ph.d project produces a semi-analytical method for simulating layered petroleum reservoir. Mass balance is the central method. It involves gravity effect on the behaviors of fluids with different density. Besides, two models, with gravity effect and without gravity effect, for simulation in COMSOL are also developed.
Numerical calculation is implemented in Matlab and Fortran. Stability and accuracy of the methods are analyzed. Microsoft Excel is used to analyze data from petroleum reservoir, including calculation on thermal-dynamic properties of petroleum.

Description of master project:
Differential geometry theorem is used to model the structural mechanics of the bending of a nanowire in nano-generator. The expressions of strain and stress are derived. The deformation of nanowire and the electrical potential predicted by this model fit well with that by 3D simulation in COMSOL. Numerical calculation is implemented in Matlab. In addition, twisting of nanowire is simulated in COMSOL, as comparison of bending. Bending is more effective for nano-generator to produce electrical potential.
