Environmental and Permitting Graduate

Ørsted

The Ørsted Global Graduate Program is designed to unleash your potential. We offer you an intense two-year developmental journey where you’ll learn from experts within your field and get diverse project experience, develop transferable skills, and a strong cross-functional network with other talents.

The Graduate journey
Our Graduate Program consists of three rotations, where you’ll solve business challenges, take responsibility for your own assignments, and engage in our day-to-day business decisions.

In your first rotation you will join the North America permitting team, where you'll actively participate in obtaining federal approvals for offshore wind developments. You’ll support critical decision-making efforts by working with top scientists on issues related to avian species, marine mammals, cultural and historic resources, and more. In future rotations you will have the chance to deepen your expertise in the regulatory, scientific, stakeholder, and compliance requirements associated with large renewable infrastructure permitting. Your focus will be getting to know our global teams and initiatives, including our biodiversity ambition and other technical workstreams related to project enablement, while solving the twin crises of climate change and species and habitat loss. One of the rotations could potentially be placed in our headquarters in Gentofte, Denmark, with the global Permitting and Consents Center of Excellence.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • supporting the North America Permitting, Environmental and Marine Affairs Team on cross-project engagements
  • supporting established project teams in planning and coordinating efficient environmental and regulatory reviews and permitting of projects, incl. preparing applications to regulatory entities
  • leading special projects related to technology implementation, to address environmental and social concerns
  • providing insights regarding key stakeholders and relationships with agencies, eNGOs, universities, and others
  • being an active contributor to development, compliance, and commercial activities, voicing suggestions and raising new ideas.

To succeed in this role, you:

  • hold, as a minimum, a bachelor’s degree within a relevant field, e.g., environmental policy, biology, ecology, engineering, marine affairs, law, or other related disciplines from before 2nd September 2025 with great results or have equivalent experience
  • A maximum of 1 year of full-time, relevant work experience between your Master's completion and 2 September 2025 OR a maximum of 1-2 years of full-time, relevant work experience between your Bachelor’s completion and 2 September 2025
  • have strong knowledge of US environmental regulations framework, as well as an understanding of some of the concerns that key decision-makers, policymakers, and state or federal authorities may hold
  • are curious and eager to contribute to the broader climate solution by participating in renewable energy project development within North America’s energy mix
  • thrive in a global and inclusive work environment, working both independently and collaboratively with your colleagues in the US and Europe
  • have exceptional written and spoken communication skills in English, along with proficiency in Microsoft tools, statistical programs, and data visualize software.

While we imagine you must have completed a degree by 2 September 2025, in a range of disciplines, we are also open to candidates with transferable skills, relevant experiences, or different qualification.
