Teaching Assistant Professor in Social Data Science, University of Copenhagen

Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Denmark, invites applications for a four-year position as a Teaching Assistant Professor in the M.Sc. programme in Social Data Science (SDS). The position is to be filled by 1 May 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The degree programme in Social Data Science (SDS) combines state-of-the-art data science techniques, including machine learning, predictive analytics, and natural language processing with core anthropological, economic, political science, psychological, and sociological theories and methods to equip students with the competences to identify, assess, and solve societal and business problems in the digital age. The Teaching Assistant Professor will be employed and placed at the Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science (SODAS), where the SDS programme is hosted. SODAS is an interdisciplinary research center situated at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The center includes about 40 researchers across different levels and with different scientific backgrounds and offers a supportive and international research environment. The SODAS community has strong collaborative relationships with all departments at the Faculty of Social Sciences, as well as internationally renowned research groups and centers at other institutions in the Copenhagen area and beyond.

The employment is a full-time position for a duration of four years, 37 hours per week.

Job content
The Teaching Assistant Professor will play a key role in the SDS programme by coordinating courses, teaching lectures, and supervising students. They will also be tasked with organizing exams and course evaluations. Teaching and technical guidance in relation to data management, information security, and data ethics for SDS students will also be central tasks. The position may also include professional development tasks, including supporting synergy between research and teaching.

The Teaching Assistant Professor is expected to devote 70 percent of their time to teaching, course coordination and supervision, 10 percent to administration, and 20 percent to professional development, data management, and teaching/research synergies.

Qualification requirements
Successful candidates will hold a master's (and preferably a PhD) degree in the social sciences or related field, and preferably have considerable competencies in programming, digital data management and compliance, as well as some experience with teaching and supervision.

The position is an educational position. The successful applicant will be expected to complete a university pedagogical programme at a point during the employment. The applicant is also be expected to have professional English language competencies.

Appointment procedure
After the application deadline, the Head of Center (SODAS) selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the appointment committee. All applicants are notified whether their application has been accepted for assessment. The Dean subsequently appoints an expert assessment committee tasked with carrying out an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee. Applicants are ultimately offered the opportunity of commenting on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalized.

Salary and conditions of employment
Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The salary range starts at DKK 37,589.76 (EUR 5,045.61) + 17.1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.
