Part time employees to assist on R&D efforts in high temperature electrolysis - DTU Energy

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

Part-time job doing design, drawing and modelling tasks in conjunction with R&D projects on electrolysis.
If you are looking for a part-time job and have an interest in energy conversion technologies, we may have an opportunity for you. We are seeking part-time employees to assist us in design- and modelling tasks on the next generation of electrolysis devices. If you are a student, we can be flexible with the weekly hours to accommodate special requirements in exam periods.

Transforming our society to rely solely on sustainable energy sources is a massive challenge. Key to success will be the development of cost-competitive routes to produce hydrogen via the electrolysis of water/steam driven by green electricity. Hydrogen has value in itself but may also serve as a reactant for producing ammonia, methanol, or other valuable chemicals that can serve as “energy vectors” enabling emission reduction from “hard to electrify” sectors like global shipping. Hence, cost-competitive routes to “green hydrogen” and “green fuels” that do not rely on natural gas are in high demand.

It is highly desirable to lower the operating temperature of the technology to allow for a longer operational life. To achieve such a temperature reduction improved electrolysis stack and system designs are needed. In this context, we need to strengthen our capacity in the design and modelling of the devices.

The job
The successful candidates will support the team in developing the next generation of solid oxide electrolysis stacks. The team consists of scientists working cross-disciplinarily on several aspects such as upscaling, manufacturing of components, and characterization. Your role will be to assist the researchers by making drawings and carrying out modelling tasks supporting the design process.

Our expectations to you
You should have experience with 3D CAD design software like SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, or similar. Further, competencies in multi-physics modelling (e.g., COMSOL) or modelling at “balance-of-plant” level is an advantage. You must have completed a bachelor's degree in engineering.

What we offer in return
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You will be employed as an Academic Officer. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is part-time, between 15-20 hours per week. The exact number of hours will be agreed to during the job interviews. We encourage also students to apply and can be flexible on how the hours are distributed over the week/month.

The period of employment is 1 year. The starting date will be decided after mutual agreement. A start around September 2024 is targeted.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than 25 September 2024. Open the “Apply now” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.

If you would like additional information about the position, please contact Peter Vang Hendriksen ([email protected]) of Wolff-Ragnar Kiebach ([email protected]).

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, disability, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
